Why is colorectal cancer screening important?

Gut health is a hot topic right now. Unfortunately, many supplements, diets, and fads touted online are not fully backed by science. But it turns out that one thing you can do to help ensure a healthy gut is to get screened for colorectal cancer.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, many people are putting preventive care on the back burner. Therefore, we found that colon cancer diagnosis rates increased due to delays or lack of screening.

Colorectal cancer is the fourth most common cancer in the United States. It affects all genders and all races. It is the second leading cause of cancer death, which means it is one of the deadliest.

But did you know it’s also one of the most preventable diseases? Colon cancer screening is designed to find cancer before it progresses or to remove polyps before they have a chance to turn into cancer. Research shows that screening programs can reduce mortality.

Unfortunately, we are seeing more and more younger patients being diagnosed with cancer. Early guidelines recommended that people at average risk should start colorectal cancer screening at age 50, but that age has now been lowered to 45.
