Painkillers and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, a type of medicine called analgesics, are used to treat pain. The big difference is that painkillers target the level of pain you feel by interrupting pain signals before they reach your brain.
Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, also known as NSAIDs, help control pain and fever by reducing inflammation. However, if you have long-term pain or inflammation, they are unlikely to improve the underlying problem causing the pain or inflammation.
