What is tylosin?
Tylosin is a macrolide antibiotic and bacteriostatic feed additive used in veterinary medicine. It has broad spectrum activity against Gram-positive organisms and activity against a limited range of Gram-negative organisms. It is a fermentation product of the naturally occurring species Streptomyces frudiensis.
Tylosin is used in veterinary medicine to treat bacterial infections in a variety of species and has a high safety profile. It is also used as a growth promoter in some species, and as a treatment for colitis in companion animals.
