N-Acetyl-L-methionine is a derivative of L-methionine, which is L-methionine in which one of the amine hydrogens is replaced by an acetyl group. It has the function of nutritional supplement. It is N-acetyl-L-amino acid, L-methionine derivative and N-acetylmethionine. It is the conjugate acid of N-acetyl-L-methionine (1-). It is the enantiomer of N-acetyl-D-methionine.

N-acetyl-L-methionine is a metabolite found or produced in Escherichia coli (strain K12, MG1655).

N-acetyl-L-methionine is a natural product found in Arabidopsis thaliana, ginseng, and other organisms for which data are available.

N-acetyl-L-methionine is a human metabolite that is nutritionally and metabolically equivalent to L-methionine. L-methionine is an indispensable amino acid required for normal growth and development.

N-acetylmethionine is an amino acid used in the peritoneal dialysis treatment of patients with renal failure and in the nutritional therapy of patients with nutritional deficiencies or debility following infection.

N-acetyl-L-methionine is an excellent protector of human serum albumin against post-translational oxidation

Research shows that N- AcMet , N-acetyl-L-methionine is excellent at scavenging reactive oxygen species and protecting proteins from oxidation. N-AcMet has a good stabilizing effect on protein structure and its antioxidant properties. The reduction in oxidized recombinant human serum albumin (rHSA, Recombinant human serum albumin) burden helps maintain normal pharmacokinetics. Therefore, N-AcMet should be useful as a novel stabilizer and antioxidant for albumin and other solubilized protein preparations. It is expected that N-AcMet will be approved as a new stabilizer in the near future.
