Additionally, the seeds contain bioactive compounds such as carotenoids and flavonoids. These compounds have potential health-promoting effects because they act as antioxidants and attenuate the activity of free radicals.

Still, there are high concentrations of antinutrients in orange seeds that can interfere with the absorption of certain essential micro- and macronutrients from food. Some examples of these antinutrients include oxalates, phytates, saponins, nitrates, and cyanide.
