Why is calcium cyclamate banned?
In 1969, the FDA banned cyclamate as a food ingredient because the saccharin/cyclamate mixture was shown to cause cancer in laboratory rats. The main concern is that it may be toxic to some people who metabolize cyclamate into cyclohexylamine.
