usage

Nutrition

Zinc sulfate is used to provide zinc in animal feed, fertilizers, toothpastes and agricultural sprays. Zinc sulfate, like many zinc compounds, can be used to control moss growth on roofs.

Zinc sulfate can be used to supplement zinc during the brewing process. Zinc is an essential nutrient for optimal yeast health and performance, although it is not a necessary supplement for low-strength beers because grains commonly used in brewing already provide sufficient zinc. It is a more common practice to push the yeast to its limits by increasing the alcohol content beyond the yeast's comfort range. Before the advent of modern stainless steel, brewing kettles, and fermentation vessels, and after wood, zinc slowly leached out through the use of copper kettles. Presumably, modern copper immersion coolers can provide trace amounts of zinc; therefore care must be taken when supplementing to avoid overdose.

Zinc sulfate is a potent inhibitor of the sweetness perception of most sweet substances.
