Bananas are always curved due to negative geotropism
Once a banana develops, it no longer grows toward the ground, but toward the sun. The fruit continues to grow under the influence of gravity, giving the banana its familiar curved shape.
Bananas are the best fruit source of vitamin B6
Vitamin B6 helps in the formation of red blood cells and certain brain chemicals. It affects brain processes and development, immune function, and steroid hormone activity.
Although bananas are hard, they are 75% water
This is even more than the 60% of the human body which is water.
Bananas are over 10,000 years old and are the oldest fruit in the world
This is about five times older than the Colosseum in Italy or the Parthenon in Greece. It has a history of about 2000 years ago!
Banana is both a fruit and not a fruit
Although the banana plant is colloquially known as the banana tree, it is actually an herbaceous plant that is distantly related to ginger, as the plant has a succulent trunk rather than a woody one. That yellow thing you peel and eat is actually a fruit because it contains the seeds of the plant. Although since bananas were grown commercially, the plants are sterile and the seeds have gradually shrunk to small sizes.
Much more variety than you think
Bananas are grown in more than 150 countries, and it is generally accepted that there are more than 1,000 species of bananas in the world, divided into 50 groups. The most common is Cavendish, the one most commonly produced for the export market.
banana peel
The health of the banana is often associated with its nutritional value, but less attention is paid to its peel, which contains a cocktail of acids, oils and enzymes that have some powerful off-label uses.
You can rub a banana peel against your skin to remove ink stains or soothe insect bites. You can also use the peel to polish your shoes, dust your plants, and even whiten your teeth.
Banana peels are also used in water purification, ethanol production and fertilizer – and they are often part of feed for cattle, goats, pigs and poultry.
So go ahead and use banana peels for everything. Just make sure you don't slip.
